In yesterday's blog we discussed the fundamentals of business transformation. We put forward how change management is a key component of all kinds of change - from strategic business transformation to implementing new technologies. Today we examine further how establishing a solid overview at the commencement of the change management process is essential. From high level impacts analysis to developing an elevator pitch, getting started out right means getting a grasp on the big picture, and focussing on alignment.

High-Level Change Impact Analysis

This multi-purpose tool helps get started out right in your change management process. Meet the stakeholders, understand their sentiment, gain insight into the change landscape and locate your change sponsor.


Using a tool like a high-level analysis helps to recognise the stakeholders who have influence and impact, find all the parties that need to be aligned, understand their viewpoints and what the gap is between their interests and the solution to be delivered. These early steps help to surface supporters and detractors which further indicates the amount of work to be done to build a genuine network of change champions.


Elevator Pitch

More than a punchy introduction to the project, an elevator pitch is also an early opportunity to explore alignment among your stakeholder groups . Through collaborative development of an elevator pitch - agreeing on wording, tone and content - change managers are able to engage with stakeholders and get direct feedback about their perspective on the change to be undertaken.


This is useful to help establish the project or change concept. But often change managers come in after the solution has already been chosen. If this is the case, the elevator pitch is low-threat opportunity to ascertain any misalignment, diagnose the degree, and the gaps that need to be addressed.

We can start to develop a Change Management Strategy once we understand the big picture for the change. In this tool we reflect on the key components of the change, such as purpose, benefits, desired outcomes; and place these alongside the people landscape we're dealing with.

When stakeholders are aligned, they share a common understanding of the change initiative’s goals and objectives. This unified vision helps ensure that everyone is working towards the same outcomes, reducing confusion and conflicting priorities.

Aligned stakeholders are more likely to support the change initiative. Their buy-in is essential for overcoming resistance and ensuring smooth implementation. When stakeholders feel their interests and concerns are considered, they are more invested in the success of the change.

Alignment fosters a sense of ownership and collaboration among stakeholders. This collaborative effort can lead to innovative solutions and improved performance, as stakeholders contribute their expertise, resources, and networks to the initiative.
