Saturday Catch-Up: Ethics in Change

Work ethic, ethics in AI, ethical business practices and ethics in leadership.

Ethics involves qualities such as diligence, responsibility, reliability, and professionalism, essential for success and personal growth. The moral principles governing the development and use of AI, focusing on fairness, transparency, and societal impact are becoming essential business practices. In all aspects of change management and leadership, prioritising fairness, honesty, and social responsibility guides decisions with integrity, empathy, and a commitment to doing what is right. Stakeholders can feel when trust and integrity are in place, and when they are not. These various aspects of ethics in change environments are interconnected, shaping a responsible and sustainable work culture, contributing to a better society and more professional business environment. In this Saturday Catch-up we look back at some of our recent thinking on the ethics in change.

  1. The life-changing value of hard work gets the weekend started with examining how a solid work ethic goes deeper than the demonstrative value during business hours. Published 19 January 2024, this blog post examines how pitching in helps us to remain present in our lives and presents a golden opportunity to grow, learn, enrich and expand your life.

  2. Change leaders must uphold ethical principles, transparency, and integrity to earn the trust of their followers. When values are embedded in every facet of the organisational culture, trust flourishes, serving as a resilient anchor during times of transition. Read more in Trust, Vision, Values and Tension from 26 June 2024.

  3. Through a brief tour of historical business models of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, A Brief History of Corporate Culture extrapolates to the future where in the wake of global challenges and environmental concerns, sustainability and corporate social responsibility has gained prominence. Businesses are now held to high ethical practices and expected to integrate these into their organisational values. Organisations are increasingly required to not just conduct their business, but to create a positive impact on society at large. Published 2 September 2024.

  4. From 15 March, 2024, I need a hero! Why we find effective leadership exciting takes a glance into ethical leadership, including how to wield the power of persuasion. Being skilled at ethical influencing enables leaders to navigate complex relationships building alignment from a group of potentially disparate motivations. This is another reason why we find effective leadership so exciting: leading by example is a great indication of ethics in influence.

  5. And finally, we get to our industry's big ticket item: The Ethical Implications of AI in Change Management. Published earlier this week, this post suggests that in order to ensure AI does not create negative effects for the progress of a change initiative, the ethical considerations need to be kept to the forefront and managed through human oversight. By anticipating and proactively addressing ethical implications, organisations can potentially harness great benefits of AI in change management while minimising risks.

And that's the rights and wrongs for this Saturday Catch-Up: Ethics in Change
