Regular readers may have noticed a theme of cultural change in recent blog posts. This Saturday Catch-up, we bring a few of these posts together to reflect on fostering an environment where adaptability and continuous improvement are ingrained in the organisational culture, ensuring that employees are prepared and willing to embrace change - in harmony. Ensuring values, beliefs, and behaviours of employees and leaders are in sync with the company’s strategic goals, leads to a more cohesive and effective workforce. We also examine some unlikely ways to achieve sound change cultures, including introducing friction into processes to slow things down as needed, and the role of tension in ensuring cultural norms and cultural change alike are built on strong foundations.
Starting with Creating a change-ready culture from 21 March we discussed how organisational transformation requires more than just reacting to external forces and having a great methodology. It demands more than a strategic and well-executed approach to change management. Best practice organisations create a change ready culture through embracing the process skills of change management, as well as focussing forward - on the future. Great change cultures understand that we may not know what the change is yet, but we can still be ready to adopt it.
From 3 May 2024, we talked about why alignment within a great culture is essential for building exceptional products, services and brands. Teams that are aligned on purpose collaborate effectively, leading to improved performance. When everyone pulls in the same direction, productivity increases. A culture that encourages experimentation and risk-taking fuels innovation. Aligned teams feel safe to explore new ideas. Read more in Cultural Alignment: Navigating Organisational Harmony.
Change through Organisational Culture and Harnessing Friction in Decision Making explored the idea that bringing together two seemingly paradoxical ideas of changing culture without changing it, and introducing friction to slow down decisions can create a powerful synergy in organisations; and create the kind of agile change culture organisations are striving for. Published 18 July 2024.
We debunked the myths that seeking stability, greater control and implementing quick fixes will lead to success in Change Management Untruths published July 19, 2024. The journey of navigating change is not always straightforward; it comes with challenges, misconceptions, and untruths that can be very tempting to implement but that ultimately can hinder progress.
Trust, Vision, Values and Tension sneaks up on you. From 26 July 2024, this post discusses the intersection of personal integrity, leadership, organisational values and explores how the discomfort of tension between these other elements can create a catalyst for change and growth.
